Being heard and involved in planning your future

You are the most important person when it comes to planning your future and you should be fully involved in all decisions about your plans for the future.

We want your thoughts on what’s going well, and what could be better. We’d love you to join Speaker Box, Southwark Council’s care and care leaver forum. You can help run campaigns and make videos on important topics, share your thoughts in monthly meetups or just meet new friends by coming to some of their events. To get in touch, call us on 020 7525 3186 or email speaker.box@southwark.gov.uk.

If you have questions about education, employment or training, need support or just want to talk, contact us on 020 7525 7077 or at careleavers@southwark.gov.uk.  You can also see if your question has already been answered on our FAQ page.

I want to speak to someone who doesn’t work for Southwark Council, who can I turn to?

You have the right to an Independent Advocate (who doesn’t work for the Council) who can inform you about your rights and help you be heard.  At Southwark Council, this service is provided by the charity Coram Voice. You can contact them on the phone on 0808 800 5792 or visit their website on www.coramvoice.org.uk for more information.

What is an ‘independent advocate?’

An Independent advocate supports the right of a looked after child to be heard and involved in decisions through one to one support. This support is provided to you in private and can be kept confidential.
